Kathryn (Steele) Draper
Kathryn (Steele) Draper of rural Brashear, MO was diagnosed with NMO in 1998. Dr. Weinschenker at Mayo Clinic diagnosed and treated her through 23 years of her illness. Kathryn was a courageous, determined woman who loved life and did not feel sorry for herself, but said there were so many others worse off than she. We do not grieve at her passing (July 26, 2021) as those who have no hope, for her trust was in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior. To live is Christ, to die is gain. Praise Him!
We chose the Guthy-Jackson Foundation to memorialize Kathryn’s courageous fight against NMO. She was blind for a short time, was paralyzed from the waist down twice and walked again, continually suffered the nerve pain of the Devic’s Belt, and was given no chance to live 5 times in her 23 year battle. We believe Kathryn would be pleased to support this foundation because it is searching for a cure for NMO and is tied to young people, whom she served and loved for many years, as stated in her obituary that follows.

She will be greatly missed, but with the hope of seeing her again soon. “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.” I Thes. 4:13-14
